Plaquemine, Louisiana, April 2, 2003: Five homes were built in
a single week as JSR Associates, Inc. partnered with Habitat
for Humanity on "Blitz Build." Also part of the crew were
several architectural students including Shelby Doucet
(Univ. of Louisiana at Lafayette) winner of the Vinyl Institutes
Student Competition coordinated by JSR Associates.

"Shelby and the other students added a fresh perspective
and willingness to learn that made the build special for
all of us," said Jane Rohde, Principal of JSR Associates
and one of the crew members.
Winner of the interior design competition,
Shelby Doucet impressed the Vinyl Institute with her
compelling essay about low-income housing and her experiences
as a single mom. She also provided a floorplan of an
example house.
After the second day, the house framing complete,
the trusses installed, the roof sheathing complete,
and the exterior insulation and windows were being
installed! It's amazing what a group of inspired
volunteers can complete! One couple, Phyllis and
Don, had been on over 30 builds since 1994!

and Shelby Doucet prepare for Day One!

The group came together on the third day to complete
siding on the outside of the house and drywall on the
inside.

It’s amazing that vinyl siding and exterior
work was being completed by the end of the third
day and beginning of the fourth day.

Christopher Tom, an architectural student from
Syracuse, worked diligently on the roof!
