Exploring the Evidence for IIDA
November 18, 2006—Recent presentations of CHER studies include "Exploring the Evidence", a CEU program prepared for the Carolina's IIDA City Centers in early 2006 by Jane Rohde, AIA, FIIDA, ACHA, AAHID. This program includes information and summaries on four completed studies; The Nature and Rate of Change in Hospital Laboratories, The Use of Single Patient Rooms vs. Multiple Occupancy Rooms in Acute Care Environments, Color in Healthcare Environments, and Limiting the Spread of Infection in Healthcare Environments. "Exploring the Evidence" has continued to be developed into a Webinar reaching design professionals and health systems around the country. Thanks to the support of Bentley Prince Street and Herman Miller for Healthcare, the Webinars will continue into 2007.... |

Senior Housing
in Boulder City
JSR is now developing a senior housing care model for a sustainable design for Boulder City, Nevada, which includes for sale housing for adult living, market rate apartments, future HUD202 apartments, community building/club house, and "Green House Project" based extended care. The floor plans for adult living single family homes and independent living apartments are now being reviewed to support adaptability and aging in place. The clubhouse/community building includes retail, café, and activity/meeting rooms that will also be utilized by the community at-large. The goal of the Boulder City community is to be integrated with the fabric of the existing town. |

AAHID Announces 5 New Interior Designers
AAHID has
had an exciting year since NeoCon 2005's induction
of their 50 Founding Members. The examination
and first round of testing has been completed,
and AAHID is proud to annouce five new AAHID
certified interior designers! KI
hosted the second annual reception for AAHID
to recognize the accomplishments and newly certified
interior designers. For more information
on the American Academy of Healthcare Interior

The next test will be held in October and July

Patapsco Woodworks, Inc., a furniture design
studio affiliated with JSR Associates, Inc. has
received the patent for the Access Table, a table
that allows those seated in wheelchairs to utilize
the same table as someone seated in a chair. |

Yoga Center Feasibility Study
July 15, 2004—JSR Associates, Inc., completes feasibility study
for Yoga Center. The goal of the space is to minimize
materials, while providing a spa like environment.
The entry provides a flowing water feature provides
a calming affect as a yoga student comes from the
hectic world into transitional space that leads to
peaceful relaxing space. Traditional office space
is converted to the “diffusion” room
through the utilization of tatami mats and low table.

Habitat for Humanity: Blitz Build
Plaquemine, Louisiana, April 2, 2003—Five homes were built in
a single week as JSR Associates, Inc. partnered with Habitat
for Humanity on "Blitz Build." Also part of the crew were

Materials Selection in Healthcare Design
Arlington, VA, April 15, 2002Interior designers
specializing in healthcare facility design say the most
important criteria driving their material choices are aesthetics,
durability and ease of maintenance, according to a recent
survey. The next most important characteristics, in declining
order, are client preference and initial cost, followed
by cost of maintenance, infection control, ease of installation,
access for wheelchairs (specifically regarding flooring
materials) and life cycle cost... |
