Perspectives Art Gallery: TreeKeepers

Art and Craft Exhibition

Artists Diana Marta and Susan Stockman are exhibiting art, craft, and installation in celebration of trees at Perspectives Art Gallery, 8191 Main Street, Ellicott City, 21043.

Friends, families, and the public are welcome to share the reception of July 8 from 5pm to 10pm. The exhibit will be open through September 25.

Diana and Susan met while studying at Towson University. Collectors of each other's art works, they have often exhibited together though the years. Both are teachers of art. And both share a love of nature.

Their artworks often express human experience as part of the natural world. The "Treekeepers" exhibit is homage to the life giving gifts of trees. Shelter, food, oxygen, beauty, and inspiration are some of the benefits that come with respecting the place and needs of trees in our environment.

Marta works with drawing, painting, digital imaging, and installation. She teaches college and studio art classes and is an exhibit curator.

Stockman has been exploring mixed media by combining clay sculpture, mosaic, metal and found objects. The physical process becomes a metaphor for the journey through life and our need to process our emotions and experiences along the way. For her, the tree represents balanced growth; on the outside, bearing fruit and branching out, on the inside, exploring our inner landscape and connection to the divine. She feels very strongly that the creation of art is part of healing and something all people can benefit from. She is also working to help people wake up to the changes and needs of our environment. To this end she is teaching kids across the state about sustainability through the creation of large mosaic installations made from recycled materials. She is also teaching adults encouraging personal growth and mindful living.

A portion of all sales will go to The Linwood Center, Inc. located in Ellicott City, Maryland.
