Dr. Hackley’s Cosmetic and Family Dentistry office is a patient-oriented practice. She asked JSR Associates, Inc. to create a space that would relate to her international client base, and they developed the global-themed design. She had her patients assist with the design of the graphics in different languages stating "A Smile is the Same in Every Language." JSR designed the space to integrate a cosmic metaphor as one moves through the office. Starting with the “earth “ mural on the ceiling above the waiting room, one walks past the “moon and stars” over the reception desk to the “sun” that marks the entrance to the undulating “waterway” corridor. This connects the seven continent-themed operatories. Each operatory entrance includes an image and items from the continent that it represents. Patients are greeted at the reception area and then directed to the appropriate “continent” for their treatment. Antarctica is a private operatory, fulfilling the need for a quiet room. All operatories include new windows to allow daylight into each space. JSR Associates, Inc. was hired to complete the design work that included concept development, coordination of technology, and contract administration services.
