Roy holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland at College Park., Maryland. Roy’s master’s thesis at Maryland involved re-imagining the world renowned Nemours Children’s Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware to be incorporated within the historic formal gardens that adjoin the existing hospital. Reimagining the unrealized potential of buildings, sites, and facilities and bringing those ideas to reality has been a passion of Roy’s work ever since.

Roy has close to twenty years experience in senior living, having worked with Jane Rohde in development services at Erickson Retirement Communities before leaving to pursue a teaching career in tandem with his ongoing work at JSR Associates for the past fifteen years.

At Erickson Retirement Communities, Roy spearheaded programming standards in master planning, design, and construction for the company’s continuing care retirement development model, and worked in the management of architectural consultants on new communities. Roy was involved in many projects at Erickson, including Charlestown, Henry Ford Village, Oak Crest Village, and Greenspring Village.

At JSR Associates, Roy offers a wide range of experience with programming, focus groups, masterplanning, development feasibility, and design work. His repertoire has included everything from programming and master planning senior living communities to designing dental suites, community centers, adult day care facilities, and residential additions, to helping JSR clients visualize design solutions through presentation sketches. Whether consulting on senior living, dental, health care, or residential projects, his greatest enjoyment comes in making great ideas real through strategic planning, design, and project management.

Roy and his wife, Donna, have been married for twenty-two years are blessed to be raising four children: Nathan, Drew, Grace, and Elyse.

Roy loves watching his family grow, and his latest love is watching his boys play varsity lacrosse at school.

In addition to his work at JSR Associates, Roy has spent the last fifteen years as a fifth grade teacher at Rockbridge Academy, a K-12 classical and Christian school in Anne Arundel County. He has a passion for raising a generation who can think effectively and articulate what they believe.

In 2011, Roy received an award for “Teacher of the Year” from the Sixth District of the Maryland VFW.
