The Durable Coated Fabrics Task Group is a group of healthcare designers working for healthcare providers, healthcare designers working for design firms,  experts in cleaning and disinfection (including CleanHealth Environments), Chemical Fabrics and Film Association (CFFA), manufacturers and distributors of durable coated fabrics, and Association for Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers (BIFMA) brought collaboratively together to address the wide-spread failures of upholstery currently occurring in healthcare settings across North America. The DCF Task group is under the auspices of the American Academy of Healthcare Interior Designers (AAHID) as an informative and educational initiative. This task group was developed from a conversation among attendees of the Design Connections conference in 2018 and has subsequently been working together to better understand performance testing, appropriate product applications for various types of healthcare settings, the development of a website including resources, presentations on the topic including status of research being completed, provision of case studies, and partnering with technical advisors and chemists to evaluate solutions that can be cleaned and disinfected within harsh healthcare environments.
